I’ll Show You Mine : Steam Spend

Steam recently added the ability to see how much you have spent with them.

Here is the link.

(You have to log in and all that jazz).

In the spirit of fun, and transparency (because why not) let’s see who the true spending addicts are!

External Funds Used
This is a sum of external funds that have been applied to your Steam account, either to purchase games on the Steam store or fund your Steam Wallet. This value is used to determine if an account is a “Limited User Account”.
Type Time Calculated Amount in USD
TotalSpend 2018-06-09 08:30:02.783 $948.97
OldSpend 2018-06-09 08:30:02.783 $500.96
PWSpend 2018-06-09 08:30:02.783 $0.00

$948.97 USD. Yikes. I could have gone on a vacation.

Still, Not all that bad. Not as bad as I was expecting, of course. And of course that doesn’t count any other platform, box sales, etc. Just steam. I’m actually mildly disappointed I didn’t crack 1000. Anyone know of a game for sale for 51.03?

Care to share your steam spend? I know that is treading on some pretty personal ground, but we are all friends here.

Could be therapeutic.

    *cries in shame*

To my credit, though, that’s the cost of gaming for 6 years of Steam. I have slowed down on Steam purchases the past two years significantly.

Also, I tend to buy gifts for other folks on Steam often. That also factors in, right? …or, maybe it’s me just trying to justify this number.

  2. I wish you hadn’t shared this!! LOL

    TotalSpend 2018-05-16 19:08:03.143 $2,143.10

I am curious as to what OldSpend vs PWSpend is

Well. Could be worse. Thriftiness pays off, I guess?

    1. I have no clue what oldspend is and why I don’t have any, considering I’ve been using Steam for as long as I can remember. I should dig up what date my first Steam purchase was as a follow up to this 🙂

      1. Yeah, it’s especially confusing as I was a relatively late adopter of Steam. I don’t think I started using it until around ’08-’09, and I didn’t start buying things there regularly until even later.

  4. TotalSpend 2018-03-30 20:59:13.053 $57.06

    OldSpend 2018-03-30 20:59:13.053 $0.00

I’m surprised it’s even that much. I remember buying three games, I think. I still have my prize from last year’s IntPiPoMo to spend – I have looked a few times but I can never see anything I can imagine playing.

    1. Hilarious – you “win!” 🙂 Although shocking you can’t find anything to play there, unless your wit just flew right over my head 🙂

      1. It wasn’t irony, although I was being a tad arch. There’s really no point playing MMOs via Steam, even if they’re free – it just means logging in twice – and I pretty much only play MMOs. The two or three non-mmo games I’ve actually paid money for there I have largely abandoned after a week or two so it doesn’t seem like a good investment. As I’ve mentioned, and as others have found, once you become habituated to playing MMOs, single player games feel a bit – pointless.

I think the best option for me would be games that take no longer than two or three sessions to complete and which have a clear, linear narrative. Those I do occasionally finish, although it still seems like a very inefficient way of getting a similar but lesser experience than I’d get from reading a book or watching a movie.

  5. I can only guess it’s correct… reputedly “Old spend only shows the money spent up before April 17, 2015.”

To be honest, both my boys often requested game from steam as Bday/Xmas gifts.

    TotalSpend 2018-06-13 23:05:15.343 $2,018.72
    OldSpend 2018-06-13 23:05:15.343 $1,026.51
    PWSpend 2018-06-13 23:05:15.343 $0.00

      1. Do I really need to? 🙂

More ‘concept’ ships sold, no ETA on SC or SQ42. Same Shyte, Different Year.

        1. I read about some other rediculously sized pack (For like 27,000?) This is getting into amazing territory. Still going. Can’t wait to see when it’s released – it’s either going to be magical or on a “The Disaster Artist” level.

          1. Reputedly it’s a ‘refresh’ of one of their old packages, adding more ships to the bundle.

The real question is, how many more…people are going to fall for and continue to toss $ at it.

That’s presuming they survive the Crytek lawsuit…and I wouldn’t be surprised if Chris/CIG used it as some sort of scapegoat/excuse/red herring.

  6. The funny bit is I had some trouble reconciling the number it showed me (~$1,500) with the list of purchases, which you can find at this URL:

    https://store.steampowered.com/account/history

That shows you all of your transactions.

The most expensive thing I ever purchased on Steam was Civ V for $49.99 back in 2010. But I have bought a bunch of less pricey things at Steam sales over the years and, sure enough, if I take that page and stick it in Excel, the numbers add up. 159 games purchased for a little less than $10 each on average.

    1. Well, that’s fun to see as well. The Orange Box was my first steam purchase followed by Fallout 3. Also a nice price per title purchase – what’s the average on the ”AAA” titles?

  7. TotalSpend 2018-05-18 21:09:10.977 $396.97
    OldSpend 2018-05-18 21:09:10.977 $108.51
    PWSpend 2018-05-18 21:09:10.977 $0.00

I’m kind of shocked. I don’t feel like I have a large library. Guess it’s all big ticket stuff. I play ESO from here, everything else sits snuggly waiting for me to play it. No guilt, just nice to know its there.

    Atheren

  8. I’m a little late to the game but…I think I win?
